Self-employed and working alone? Tell us one thing you wish you'd known sooner

Jessica — Mon, 02 Nov 2026 10:43:26 +0000

Most of us work on our own: a rented room, a home studio or a bag in the car. It's great for freedom, less great when you've got a question and nobody to ask.

So here's an easy one to start with. What's one thing you wish someone had told you when you first went self-employed? It could be about money, clients, rooms, your body or anything else.

We wrote a short piece on why therapists need each other, if you're curious: https://themassagelondon.co.uk/self-employed-massage-therapist/

Welcome to Massage London: introduce yourself here

Jessica — Sun, 01 Nov 2026 07:10:03 +0000

Hello, and welcome. I’m Jessica, and I look after the forum here at The Massage London.

This is a place for massage therapists, bodyworkers, students and anyone working in the massage industry in and around London. It’s for the questions training courses don’t cover: what to charge, where to find a good treatment room, which insurance covers mobile work, how to handle a difficult client, and which CPD courses are actually worth the money.

To get started, reply to this thread and tell us a little about yourself:

what treatments you offer
where in London you work (clinic, home studio, mobile, spa)
how long you’ve been practising, or where you’re training
one thing you’d like to learn from other members

A few things to know:

It’s free to join and take part.
It’s strictly professional and non-sexual. Please read the community guidelines.
Your first post is checked by a moderator before it appears. That’s normal, and it keeps spam out.
Jobs, room rentals and adverts go in the Jobs and room rentals section.

If you have ideas for the forum, post them in Site news and feedback. I read everything.

Looking forward to meeting you.

Jessica
