How to Choose a Massage Therapist in London

The Massage London is a community for massage professionals, so we do not take bookings or list therapists. The checks below will help you choose a qualified, independent massage therapist and know what to expect before you book.

What to check before you book

Massage is not regulated by law in the UK, so it is worth a few quick checks:

  • Qualifications. Ask what training the therapist has. A recognised Level 3 qualification or higher is a good sign.
  • Insurance. Professional therapists carry insurance and are happy to confirm it.
  • A consultation. A good therapist asks about your health, injuries and medication before treating you.
  • Clear prices and policies. You should know the cost, session length and cancellation policy before you book.
  • Professional listings. Be wary of adverts that use suggestive photos or vague wording. Genuine therapists describe treatments clearly.

Not sure which massage to choose?

Our massage guides explain the main treatments in plain English, including Swedish, deep tissue, Thai and reflexology. If you are unsure, start with what massage can and cannot help with.
